Sport @ the ELC
Sport and gross motor play are essential parts of our Early Learning Centre program, supporting the physical, social, and emotional development of young children. At this age, children are developing strength, coordination, balance, and spatial awareness—all of which are nurtured through active play, games, and structured physical activities. These experiences lay the foundation for healthy growth and lifelong habits of movement and wellbeing.
Gross motor activities also contribute to cognitive development by supporting concentration, problem-solving, and resilience. Whether climbing, jumping, throwing, or participating in group games, children learn to cooperate, take turns, follow rules, and develop confidence in their abilities. These skills support emotional regulation and positive social interactions, helping children feel capable and connected.
Our sport and movement program aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework by promoting a strong sense of wellbeing, identity, and belonging. It encourages active participation, persistence, and the joy of movement in a safe and supportive environment. Through gross motor play, children learn more than just physical skills—they develop perseverance, teamwork, and a sense of achievement that supports a smooth transition to school and lifelong learning.
